5 Benefits of Private School Education

5 Benefits of Private School Education

There are lots of parents both internationally and within the UK that are choosing and looking for their children to attend UK private independent boarding schools that want to give them access to bigger opportunities and a wide variety of skill-sets. The end goal is to prepare them for a successful and enriching life within an ever-changing climate.

There are many different options in the private school sector, with private boarding schools and alternative private schools such as day schooling also being popular options amongst parents. It is important to explore each avenue, as every child will excel in different environments whether that is as a full boarding school student or whether they go home at the end of each school day.

There is a big investment in the private boarding school pathway and here are some of the reasons why we think parents are choosing to send their children to a private school, and why the investment is worth it!

1. Reduced Class Size

There have been many educational studies that show that the smaller the class size the higher an average grade the students go on to achieve. This is because a smaller class size gives each student more one-to-one time with the teacher.  At many schools, this also means that each teacher can offer a more tailored curriculum to improve each individual’s weaknesses and progress their strengths making them a more balanced student.

2. Standards and Learning Environment

Private schools are best known to have high standards of respect and discipline between staff and students. The lower ratio of staff to students makes it a lot more manageable to control around the school grounds. Most independent private schools have a strong feeling of community within its school which nurtures the children’s social skills and encourages good behaviour.

The discipline that children learn in independent primary schools naturally follows them in to secondary school and beyond, where they fully regulate their attendance and achievement levels.

3. Excellent Resources

Most private schools have phenomenal facilities to support their students’ learning throughout their school life. Facilities such as well-equipped classrooms to multiple sports facilities and even down to their own zoo at certain private schools. Access to these types of resources provides students with the opportunity to discover their interests, strengths and weaknesses and to ensure that there’s something for every pupil whatever their interest may be.

4. Wider Opportunities

One key advantage of private school education is the enriched educational experience that students obtain. This is thanks to numerous additional initiatives, such as extracurricular activities, placement courses, or programmes for gifted pupils. These include music ensembles, sports teams, as well as arts and drama groups. There are also on offer, miscellaneous programmes such as horse-riding clubs, holiday clubs, and many other activities where students learn valuable skills in realistic settings.

Independent private schools can create their own curriculum which means that teachers’ expertise and lessons are not limited by strict boundaries. The majority of private schools employ the best-skilled staff members from around the country and even the world to share their knowledge in a way that will be most beneficial for students. Whether that includes advanced schoolwork or enriching trips to the art museum – or most likely, a combination of both.

Attending an independent private school increases an individual’s likelihood of attending a top University. In fact, many private schools have close to 100% of students getting into their first choice University. This is because privately taught students frequently score top marks on standardised tests, giving them a competitive edge when applying for a place on further education courses.

5. Parent Involvement

Many independent private schools are built around open communication between the school and the parents. This open communication between all parties ensures that students needs are carefully monitored and addressed, helping them achieve the best they possibly can. Private schools understand the essential role parents play in their child’s education from hosting meetings with the teachers, coffee mornings, and fundraising initiatives, parents’ involvement is encouraged and enabled at all times. Many private schools relationships with parents are also made easier by having organising committees such as parent’s social associations and/or ex pupil associations that stay involved with the school for many years after leaving.
